HOPs bring Top Hat to Harrogate!

Harrogate Operatic Players are not a society to take a break!

Following the success of their summer show, ‘Betty Blue Eyes’ they’re taking the bold step of launching their next blockbuster show, ‘Top Hat’ in just a few weeks!

HOPS will return to the glamorous surroundings of the Royal Hall to make way for the fantastic and vast sets for this sparkling spectacle of a show which originally starred Hollywood’s original golden couple, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.

Top Hat is a glittering and feel-good romantic musical comedy that celebrates 1930s song, style and romance and is packed full of Irving Berlin’s greatest hits including, ‘Cheek to Cheek’, ‘Top Hat’, ‘White Tie & Tails’, ‘Let’s Face the Music & Dance’ and ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’.
Top Hat tells the story of Broadway star, ‘Jerry Travers’ who dances his way across Europe to win the heart of society girl ‘Dale Tremont’.

HOPS will begin their search for the cast of Top Hat with their launch night at the spectacular Royal Hall itself and are inviting all to audition for the many tap dancers, singers and principal characters in the show. The production team are also searching for a strong back stage team and would love prospective new backstage members to join them at the launch.

A Word From Our Chairman
"We’ve taken a quick breath after our wonderful Betty Blue Eyes at the Harrogate Theatre but are now focused on putting together another brilliant show with our director, Mike Kirkby and musical director, Craig Ratcliffe.

With such a huge show to put together, we were determined to cast the show six months ahead of rehearsals to know that we had the best possible team. It is such an undertaking to take a show like Top Hat on, especially at the Royal Hall and we continue to challenge ourselves and take risks wherever possible!

The launch night for Top Hat will be on Wednesday 26th July at 7.30pm at the Royal Hall. This will be a time to meet the production team behind the show, meet other members, have a drink, and find out more about audition dates and the show."

Sister Act - 2015

Sister Act was a show that many of us, including our sell out audiences, will never forget. There were many outstanding performances but a special mention must go to Emma Swales who took the lead of Deloris.
Sister Act was directed by Michael Kirkby and the fabulous music was directed by James Rodgers.

Annie - 2016

Our sell-out run of the classic family musical, ‘Annie’, gripped the Harrogate audiences..
Our two wonderful ‘Annies’ – Holly Todd and Emily Belcher led the cast with their beautiful portrayals of the little red haired orphan along with brilliant performances by Ruth Graham as ‘Miss Hannigan’ and Monty as the beloved ‘Sandy’.

Betty Blue Eyes

Our brilliantly successful 2017 show!

An utterly British story of the underdog overcoming all the odds, it showcases expertly crafted songs that have a perfect balance of wit, pathos and post war optimism by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
