MUSICAL SQUARES

MUSICAL SQUARES

Yes, we came back! As lockdown was lifting and we were going into Tier 2, we were able to safely put on Musical Squares, as a live, physical performance. We managed to do 1 last minute performance at Scotton Village Hall on Tuesday 3rd November 2020 at 8pm and 2 performances on Saturday 19th December 2020, 4pm and 6pm, at Harrogate Ladies College.

If you're like us, we know how much you must have missed live theatre and music. This was one of our great motivators in putting on this concert for you. We all have a responsibility to stay safe but support the arts through a difficult time. We made sure we had all the safety procedures, all the cast and crew had their temperature checked every rehearsal, sanitized their hands on entry of the building and regularly throughout the rehearsals. Everyone wore a plastic visor or mask in and around the building, social distancing maintained at all times. The audience members were asked to wear a mask within the venue and followed the one way system, they were seated 2 meters apart.

The concert told the story of 2020, using a mix of classic and modern songs and dances from some of the best musicals, such as; Les Miserables, 9 to 5, Waitress, Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat, Dear Evan Hansen & Hamilton to name but a few, all under the musical guidance of our re-own Musical Director: Jim Lunt. Director and Producer Clare Pascall and Choreographers Lucy Thackwray and Lizzie Oates.

It was a mad idea that we honestly thought would go through with all the lockdown restrictions and uncertainty. Clare couldn't believe we had got past rehearsal 10, let alone had a cast who were willing to commit to the show. It felt so good to perform to an actual audience and it certainly proved a point that theatre can be done safely.

Tuesday 22nd November 2020, we hosted a very special Virtual HOPs Tuesday which was an exclusive viewing of the show and behind the scenes footage and interviews, for those who were unable to see the physical show. There were up to 40 people on the zoom call, including the big bosses from NODA, the evening was a success and we received such amazing and positive feedback.
